The Wine Director
Beatriz is a Master of Sciences in Viticulture and Enology from the University of California at Davis, USA.
During this period she graduated top of her class and among various awards this included The Wine Spectator Non-resident Tuition Grant.
During this period she was also Dr. Roger Boulton’s Teaching Assistant for Wine Stability, Dr Hildegarde Heymann’s Teaching Assistant for Wine Sensory Evaluation, and Dr. Sue Ebeler’s Assistant for both Analysis of Musts and Wines, as well as Flavor Chemistry of Fruits and Vegetables. Her particular areas of interest are wine production, sensory evaluation of wines, consumer preferences and wine marketing.
Before engaging in this new venture in Wine Hospitality, Beatriz was a wine consultant in the Douro and the Alentejo, offering several short courses on sensory analysis of wines and panel performance evaluation to the Portuguese wine industry.
Her passion for wines and her belief that quality Portuguese wines need to be introduced and promoted to a global audience led her to accept the challenge to be the first Wine Director of a 5-star wine hotel in Portugal and join The Yeatman team.
Since June 2010, Beatriz has selected and now oversees a 20,000-bottle wine cellar, which stocks the world’s most comprehensive collection of Portuguese table wines and Ports.
Married and with a child, Beatriz is a foodie, enjoys travelling and is a photography enthusiast.
Under her guidance The Yeatman won the award in 2011 for "Best Wine List” from leading Portuguese wine magazine "Revista de Vinhos”.

For five generations the Pato family has been dedicated to making wines in Bairrada. The name of João Portugal Ramos has been related to Portuguese wines for over 30 years, firstly as consultant winemaker of renowned wine brands, and since 1992, as a producer. The Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima Estate spreads along the south bank of the Tagus river, incorporating areas of wet crops, forests and vineyards. Created in 2000 in a clear commitment of excellence, a group of 15 wine producers and estate owners across three Douro sub-regions (Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, Douro Superior). Ex-libris of the Monção region, this is a magnificent building in neoclassical style, dating from the beginning the nineteenth century.
