Beatriz is a Master of Sciences in Viticulture and Enology from the University of California at Davis, USA. She graduated top of her class and among various awards this included The Wine Spectator Non-resident Tuition Grant.
During this period she was also Dr. Roger Boulton’s Teaching Assistant for Wine Stability, Dr Hildegarde Heymann’s Teaching Assistant for Wine Sensory Evaluation, and Dr. Sue Ebeler’s Assistant for both Analysis of Musts and Wines, as well as Flavor Chemistry of Fruits and Vegetables. Her particular areas of interest are wine production, sensory evaluation of wines, consumer preferences and wine marketing.
Before engaging in this new venture in Wine Hospitality, Beatriz was a wine consultant in the Douro and the Alentejo, offering several short courses on sensory analysis of wines and panel performance evaluation to the Portuguese wine industry.
Her passion for wines and her belief that quality Portuguese wines need to be introduced and promoted to a global audience led her to accept the challenge to be the first Wine Director of a 5-star wine hotel in Portugal and join The Yeatman team.
Since June 2010, Beatriz has selected and now oversees a 25,000-bottle wine cellar, which stocks the world’s most comprehensive collection of Portuguese table wines and Ports.
Beatriz is a foodie, enjoys travelling and is a photography enthusiast.
Under her guidance The Yeatman has won the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for the past 4 years and a 3 star award in the World's Best Wine Lists compiled by The World of Fine Wine Magazine.
