Special care was taken to harmonize textures and colours in order to enhance the feeling of comfort and wellbeing. Authentic and original details, such as the use of traditional Portuguese ceramic tiles, provide character and a sense of place. Individually appointed and decorated, each room is discretely themed with intriguing artifacts and pictures contributed by a different Portuguese wine producer.

The Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima Estate spreads along the south bank of the Tagus river, incorporating areas of wet crops, forests and vineyards. In the douro region, four brothers worked together with knowhow and passion, to fulfil a old family dream: to see the premium product of their vineyard bottled under its own name. Thomas Reynolds, an English seaman and a merchant, arrived in Portugal in 1820 lured by the wine business. He set up in the Northern town of Porto with his two sons, Thomas and Robert. Herdade da Calada is a unique building with unusual features. Dating back to 1854 this "jewel in the Alentejo” was built by descendants of the Duke of Lancaster.
