Born in 1908, Dão Demarcated Region is the most ancient region of still wines in Portugal. However, it had already been historically the cradle of great wines. Casa da Passarella had been almost two decades before the region was demarcated.

Passarella is one of the few existing cellars witch, due to the unquestionable quality of its wines, established the Demarcated Region. This was fundamental to the current wine map of the Dão Region.
Since, 1892, Casa da Passarella has become one of the houses which symbolizes Portuguese wines and witch hosted some of the legendary names of Portuguese oenology, namely the late Dr. Mário Pato and Eng. Alberto Vilhena, among many others.

The first bottling registration we own, exhibited in our interpretation center, is a bottle of our first brand – Villa Oliveira – with a labeling date of 1893.

Casa da Passarella has currently got about 100 hectares, from which 55 hectares are of vine. The 55 hectares are divided into seven different vines, and each vine has got unique characteristics – not only with different exposures but also with an amazing and original diversity of varieties.

The several wines of Casa da Passarella are exclusively born from these "magnificent seven” vines.

It is also here that our brand’s originality lies: more than a blend of varieties, we are talking about a blend of vines – which makes Casa da Passarella’s wines unique, an absolute reflection of our "terroir”.
