A unique and privileged terroir, where clay-limestone soils combine with a Mediterranean microclimate, strongly influenced by the Atlantic and with a constant breeze. The first wine was produced in 1997, and it did not take long for Quinta do Monte d’Oiro to become a benchmark producer in Portugal and around the world.
In 2006, with the support of technical consultant Grégory Viennois, the vineyard began its conversion to organic production, a step that clearly defined the path to follow in the future.
Today, of the estate’s 42 ha, 29 ha are vineyards, predominantly planted with Syrah and Viognier, as well as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Marsanne, Arinto and Fernão Pires. Since 2011, the company’s general management has been led by Francisco Bento dos Santos and, since 2025, winemaking has been in the hands of António Braga.
The goal of producer José Bento dos Santos is to craft high-quality, European-style wines, respecting the qualities and messages of the existing terroir - a unique and unrepeatable combination of soils and climate.
The wines of Quinta do Monte d’Oiro have a gastronomic character. They are wines with their own identity: deep, mineral, dense, distinctive and with a profile clearly designed to accompany, in perfect harmony, carefully prepared cuisine - genuine regional dishes, classic cuisine or haute cuisine.
